What is CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, noninvasive, effective therapy that evaluates and treats restrictions impacting the central nervous system.  It has successfully been used to treat:

cranio sacral therapy

 migraines
 joint immobility
 jaw pain
 sinus congestion
 neck pain
 eye-motor coordination problem
 fibromyalgia
 back pain
 hip pain
 knee pain
 undiagnosed pain
 chronic ear infections

The CranioSacral System

The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and fluid that surround and support the brain and spinal cord.  The craniosacral system extends from the bones of the head (cranium) down to the bone at the base of the spine (sacrum).  The fluid system is continuously draining and refilling corresponding to the production, resorption and circulation of cerebrospinal fluid.

This filling and draining creates gentle, rhythmic, movements that can be felt anywhere in the body. These movements are the craniosacral rhythm.  To a trained therapist the craniosacral rhythm is easily sensed through the hands similar to how you may sense the heart beat. From this rhythm, the therapist gains valuable information about restrictions in the fascial system of the body impacting the central nervous system.

In this work we focus our awareness through our hands to sense and follow the release of the restrictions that we become aware of.  The body knows how to self correct, we are just following the tissue supporting it in the way it needs to move.

Benefits for Children

Children active in sports are generating and absorbing forces daily.  Taking many hits to their body that are never discussed.  If your child does not recover fully from an injury, or has chronic headaches or pain, there may be an underlying strain in his or her system that can be identified and resolved with this work.

Children with learning differences gain awareness and appreciation for their way of processing.

Children with ADD have the opportunity to experience how to quiet their mind.  This is a gift for everyone who thinks all the time.

Children with special needs have additional central nervous system support and opportunities for change which are different from all of the therapies the insurance companies cover.

Infants  Craniosacral therapy is a wonderful opportunity for healthy, thriving babies to unwind and settle easily into the amazing changes that will occur in the first year of life.

If your newborn is having difficulty with breastfeeding, turning their head, or with colic or reflux, Craniosacral therapy can gently release restrictions in the fascia system to create more freedom of movement and ease in their bodies.

Craniosacral therapy’s primary focus is supporting the nervous system. It is a great resource for premies and for infants who have had a difficult birth.
